I agree Emma!! I think the first part of Edna's post makes us think really carefully abuot how we can often overload our students in the first few days when we should spend that time getting to know our students.

DeleteI think that the second set of things that need to happen on the first day back are better because it's focusing on the students and the teachers. The first set of things were about what the teacher wanted.

DeleteWhen we first read the first top 10 ways to create a learning culture, we thought it was ugly and horrible. The most horrible rule was that you couldn't smile and laugh. That is just outrages!!

When we were looking at the rules we thought they were appaling they were worst to any other rule I have seen H.I.S rules or values are better.

I think our new values are pretty powerful aren't they? The best part is that they are so positive and encourage all of us to be the best we can be.

Are the first set of expectations really disrespectful though? I'm not sure. In what ways do you think they are? I'm really enjoying reading the thinking on this. Just wondering if they're disrespectful or just different based on what we thought in a different time period?

ReplyDeleteI love the honesty of your comments Team. Remember though, at the time it was how we were taught to be teachers. I can remember being told not to smile or joke with your class in the initial weeks of school - seems crazy now doesn't it!

Taiana - I'm not sure what you mean by your comment - you might need to clarify it for me. :-)
Like Taiana said we should create our own rules. Teachers are strict (not Ms Hughes)because there always busy doing what they want when the students want to do something more.It's like the teacher doesn't care about the students feelings or needs. (Also not Ms Hughes)

Thanks for that Christian. :-) I hope that, while I might not be overly 'strict' that I do show you that I have high expectations for all of you as teachers and learners and as human beings.
