Ideas for Note-Taking Using Sketch-Notes Notetaking

Hi everyone!
Our focus for part of our writing this term is being able to record observations in a scientific way and write clear explanations.  This, of course, links in with everything else we are learning, especially in reading.

READING ROCKS!

I always love hearing the depth of discussion that goes on when everyone's reading.  We hopped outside today to take some photos of our teachers and learners enjoying the fresh air and good books.

We read every day and share so many different texts - picture books, novels, comics, poetry, history.......  You name it and you're sure to find it in our learning environment.

Come along and read with us after lunch every day - apart from Friday - assembly day! :-)

REFLECTING ON OUR LEARNING

• Think about what you accomplished yesterday.
• Discuss what the challenges were.
• What worked well, what didn't work so well?
• What would you change if you could do the challenge again today?
• Is it easier working in the groups I chose or having the freedom to choose your own groups?  Why?

The Marshmallow Challenge

Or...How to REALLY encourage Habits of Mind including Thinking Flexibly, Persistence, Using Humour, etc!!

We challenged our abilities to work cooperatively with people we don't usually work with - Miss H chose the cooperative groups this time.  We're reflecting on the challenges this provided and how easy / hard it is to work with people whose learning styles, etc may be very different to our own.  (This will also tie in with Multiple Intelligences learning as well as Habits of Mind).

So...What's Thinking???

Here's something to get those amazing brains going.  We sometimes take for granted what we do when we're thinking.  My question is...

What is thinking?  What does it mean to you?  Remember our guiding 'rule' - Any and all ideas count.

Room 4 Educational Software Developers

We've been up to all sorts of things in our room over the last term.  (You will see a lot more on the students' individual blogs).

One of them has been the opportunity to take a tool developed in part by a friend of mine and develop an educational teaching and learning tool from it.  We've even had the opportunity to rename it from MyVcv - it's original name and purpose, to MyChatpak - the educational spin-off!

This will now be forever known as the product that was developed by Room 4, 2012, at Henderson Intermediate School, Auckland, New Zealand.  How exciting is that??!!
